On Wednesday, the second leg of the Carling Cup semi-final tournament between two London teams - "Arsenal" and "Tottenham" took place. After extra time, "Arsenal" secured victory and advanced to the final.
3 – 1
77‘ [1 – 0] Emmanuel Adebayor
84‘ [1 – 1] Mido
105' [2 - 1] Jeremie Aliadiere
112' [3 - 1] Pascal Chimbonda (own goal)
"Tottenham", playing as the visitors, were the first to launch a dangerous attack, with Robbie Keane taking a shot 10 minutes after a long pass from Michael Dawson, which was saved by Manuel Almunia.
Later on, the Gunners took control. Kolo Toure headed dangerously close to the goal 13 minutes after a corner kick, Jeremie Aliadiere scored from a side pass by Justin Hoyte after 22 minutes, and in the final moments of the first half, a long shot by Emmanuel Adebayor flew over the crossbar. However, before that, Robbie Keane had a dangerous header towards goal.
After the break, "Arsenal" completely took control of the game, dominating the midfield and launching threatening attacks. E. Adebayor headed just over the crossbar after a corner kick in the 58th minute, and Denilson's long-range shot in the 69th minute pierced the net, but from the outside.
In the 77th minute, "Arsenal" finally capitalized on their advantage and scored a goal. Tomaš Rosicky took a shot from 20 meters, Paul Robinson saved the shot, but the Czech was first to the ball, passing it to Togo's forward E. Adebayor, who took his chance.
However, seven minutes later, the score became level. After Jermaine Jenas' penalty shot, Mido nodded the ball into the net - 1-1. The Egyptian only appeared on the field in the 80th minute.
"Tottenham", understandably, tried to snatch victory and had a good opportunity, but a very dangerous Mido attack was blocked by "Arsenal" defender Philippe Senderos, while the hosts also had a chance to score on the counterattack.
Since the away goals rule does not apply in the Carling Cup tournament (the first match ended in a 2-2 draw), the teams had to play extra time.
During extra time, "Arsenal" once again took the initiative, proving it by scoring two goals. J. Aliadiere scored in the 105th minute, and in the 112th minute, "Tottenham" defender Pascal Chimbonda directed the ball into his own net after a shot by T. Rosicky.
"Arsenal" won 3-1 and advanced to the final, where they will meet another London team, "Chelsea," at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.
