Former United States national team and current English Premier League striker Brian McBride has extended his contract with the club for another year and will remain with the West London team until 2008.
The Fulham team acquired one of the best all-time U.S. players in January 2004 from the Columbus Crew club in the MLS league for a sum of 1.5 million dollars.
This season has been going very well for B. McBride, who left the national team after the unsuccessful World Cup for the U.S. He has scored 8 goals in the Premier League and is currently the top scorer for the Fulham team.
Fulham's head coach Chris Coleman is pleased to have retained an important player for another season.
"I am very happy about this, and I think everyone associated with the Fulham team feels the same," said C. Coleman to the club's official website. "Brian is doing a fantastic job for our team this season. He likes it here, his wife is settled well, and the children are attending a good school - which is a very important factor for Brian."
B. McBride began his football career in his homeland in 1994 with the Milwaukee Rampage team, where he scored 17 goals in just 18 matches. A year later, the talented striker was noticed by the German Wolfsburg club. However, he struggled to adapt to the team and only scored 2 goals in 18 games.
In 1996, McBride returned from Wolfsburg and moved to the Columbus Crews, where he spent seven years scoring 61 goals in 161 matches against opponents' goalkeepers. In 2000 and 2002, the player was loaned to English teams Preston North End and Everton, where he struggled.
In 2004, McBride joined Fulham and scored 27 goals in 110 matches. He made his debut for the U.S. national team in 1993, scoring 30 goals in 90 matches.
