The head coach of the Portuguese national team, Luiz Felipe Scolari, denied reports that he encouraged the country's star winger to leave England and move to the "Barcelona" team.
Rumors have been circulating that the 22-year-old star of the Portuguese national team is promising to move to another team during the summer. It is believed that the Madrid "Real" club would like to acquire the footballer for 40 million pounds sterling. It was reported that L.F. Scolari believes "Barcelona" would be the ideal solution if the player wants to improve.
"His main learning stage is coming to an end and I know Cristiano is ready to change his environment. Barcelona would be happy if Cristiano joined them, as he would complement Ronaldinho perfectly. The significant thing for Cristiano would be the climate in Barcelona - usually sunny and hot, playing in such weather is harder than in England," - L.F. Scolari's words were quoted by "The Sun."
It was further written that L.F. Scolari believes that it would not be appropriate for Cristiano to move to the "Real" club: "Cristiano needs to move where team play is important, not individual heroics or star actions. Moving to a club where there are four or five stars would be unsuitable."
However, L.Scolari denied ever saying such things: "I don't have to explain in this case what I said or did not say, what they wrote or didn't write. What I say goes in one ear and out the other."
In Sunday's Premier League match, C. Ronaldo scored his 15th goal of the season.
Last week, "Man Utd" general manager David Gill announced that a £35 million offer to buy Ronaldo had been rejected, with the decision motivated by the fact that the player is simply not for sale.
