The attacking organizer of the Norwegian national team and the English Premier League club Morten Gamst Pedersen suffered a calf injury in international matches against Croatia and will be unable to play for about a week.
The 25-year-old midfielder, who has already scored 6 goals in the Premier League this season, played only 39 minutes in the 2-1 loss to Croatia on Wednesday before receiving a blow to his leg and having to leave the field.
Upon returning to the "Blackburn" club, the team's medical staff assessed the injury and revealed that it was not as serious as initially thought, and the player should only miss this week's matches.
However, the team's head coach Mark Hughes expressed serious concern about the player's health, revealing that the injury is slightly more severe than initially believed.
"Morten is currently in excellent athletic condition, but he suffered a calf injury and can only return after ten or eleven days. This is a lot, as this week will be very intense and difficult," Hughes said on the club's official website.
M. G. Pedersen will not be able to help the team this important week and will miss the league match against Liverpool's Everton on February 15, as well as the UEFA Cup sixteenth final trip to Germany, where "Blackburn" will face Bayer Leverkusen and the FA Cup quarter-final tie with Arsenal or Bolton next week.
Blackburn is plagued by injuries after the New Year. The team will have to continue without defender Andre Ooijer and Wales international midfielder Robbie Savage, who both suffered leg injuries, as well as defender Steven Reid, who suffered a knee injury.
After 26 rounds in the English Premier League, Blackburn has 34 points and occupies 9th place.
