According to an article published in "The Independent" on Friday, it is believed that London is negotiating with a billionaire from America and could become another Premier League club in England with ties across the Atlantic.
"The Independent" reports that real estate magnate and billionaire Stan Kroenke is in talks with a London club for an innovative partnership involving his "Major League Soccer" (MLS) club "Colorado Rapids."
The news about the proposed offer came out a few days after American magnates George Gillett and Tom Hicks took over the management of the "Liverpool" team. This confirms the growing trend of American businessmen buying English clubs.
According to "The Independent," the agreement would involve changing the name of "Colorado Rapids" to "Arsenal Colorado" or "Colorado Arsenal," as well as changing the uniform to maroon, thus immortalizing the last years the club spent at "Highbury" stadium. Currently, the London team plays at the new "Emirates" stadium.
According to the newspaper, both of the proposed names have already been registered by "Kroenke's Sports Enterprises" as trademarks.
This partnership should promote relations between the clubs: they would play friendly matches, have the opportunity to exchange training methods, and help in developing players. The Rapids plan to visit England before the start of the 2007 MLS season in April.
However, the Arsenal club declined to comment on such a report.
Arsenal in London also maintains other diverse relationships - most notably the partnership with the Belgian team "Beveren" and the establishment of an academy in the Ivory Coast.
