The head coach of the Madrid club in the Spanish "Primera" league, Fabio Capello, was very pleased after Saturday's victory away against San Sebastian's "Real Sociedad" with the return of former captain of the England national team David Beckham to the lineup, as he scored the equalizing goal with an impressive penalty kick.
The Italian specialist said that D. Beckham will never play for his team again after the 31-year-old defender announced four weeks ago that he would leave the team after his contract with Real ends and move to the Los Angeles Galaxy in the MLS league in the United States.
However, the Englishman was recalled to the team before this weekend and was included in the starting lineup on Saturday for the match against Real Sociedad. Although the home team took the lead in the 7th minute, Beckham's well-executed penalty kick in the 38th minute tied the score, and in the beginning of the second half, Dutchman Ruud van Nistelrooy's goal gave Real the victory.
"I have always had faith in my players, each and every one of them," said F. Capello. "David Beckham has not played for a long time, but in the match against Real Sociedad, he looked very good and his goal was truly impressive.
"I spoke with Beckham twice last week about his excellent form on the field," added the 60-year-old Italian. "I told him that he wasn't scoring enough goals, but today (on Saturday) he scored a very important goal."
F. Capello also mentioned that Beckham was included in the team because Real's defenders are experiencing the most injuries, and if the Englishman continues to show good form, he can secure his place in the future.
"I am more inclined to think about the future than the past. Beckham is an intelligent person who has a lot of merits and talent," the coach praised. "For the past few weeks, he has trained very well, and today he performed excellently. This is good not only for him, but for the whole Real team."
After the victory against Real Sociedad, F. Capello's Real team moved from fourth place to third, but with a win on Sunday against Valencia, they can reclaim their former position.
