England national team and Newcastle United striker Michael Owen said on Tuesday that he is happy to be able to run and can return to the field after a few months following a serious injury suffered during the World Cup.
Owen hopes that his return will happen in April - on Monday, the athlete started running.
"The next step would be to continue running and work with the ball before returning to training. I enjoyed the first 10 minutes, but later it felt like hard work. However, every step I take is a step in the right direction and so far everything is going well," Owen shared his feelings after his first individual training sessions.
Wearing Newcastle United jersey, the Englishman appeared on the field only 11 times since the club bought him from Real Madrid for £17 million in August 2005.
The footballer was out for five months last season after a collision with Tottenham player Paul Robinson, a fracture of the foot bone. Then, misfortune struck at the World Cup in Germany when he stumbled on a level surface.
His importance to the club is based on the fact that in 10 games with Newcastle, the player scored 7 goals.
"As he suffered an injury at the World Cup, I couldn't even write Michael Owen's name down in the starting eleven. I don't know when I will be able to do that," said the team's head coach Glenn Roeder.
