Former captain of the German national team Lothar Matthäus said in an interview with the newspaper "Bild" on Thursday that he would gladly take over the reins of the current Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
When asked about the possibility of leading the Bayern team, L. Matthäus, who is currently coaching Red Bull Salzburg, responded briefly and clearly: "Of course."
"I am attached to the Bundesliga and especially to Bayern. Whatever happens in my life, my goal is the Bundesliga," the strategist shared his aspirations.
Bayern Munich, currently in 4th place in the highest German league and already 11 points behind the leaders Schalke, dismissed head coach Felix Magath last month and appointed Ottmar Hitzfeld, who previously led the team, as the interim coach until the end of the season.
L. Matthäus stated that it is now up to Bayern to regain stability and defeat the Real Madrid team - their next competitor in the Champions League.
The strategist also added that if Bayern were to offer him the position of coach, he would be ready to make a decision that would satisfy everyone.
"I am convinced that Lothar will achieve a lot and one day become the coach of Bayern," the current Bayern coach O. Hitzfeld's words were quoted in the "Bild" newspaper.
