Leverkusen club extended the contract with their striker Sergej Barbarez for another year until the summer of 2008. Former forward of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team arrived in Leverkusen last May, after representing "Hamburger" for six seasons. This season, the 35-year-old striker scored 4 goals in 21 matches for "Bayer". Meanwhile, the main team goalkeeper Hans-Jorg Butt will miss two matches due to the Bundesliga disciplinary committee decision for unsportsmanlike conduct in the match against "Eintracht". The goalkeeper was sent off the field in that match and will not play in the upcoming matches against "Hannover" and "Schalke". Having earned only one point in the last three matches, "Bayer" players currently hold the 7th place in the Bundesliga, while in the first leg of the UEFA Cup sixteenth-final this week, they defeated "Blackburn" 3-2.
