Argentinian national team's defensive midfielder Javier Mascherano officially became a full member of the club on Tuesday.
Having failed to find a place in the team since the beginning of this season, the 22-year-old footballer sought to find a new team during the winter transfer window, and "West Ham" agreed to loan him to "Liverpool" until the end of the season.
However, the deal could not be finalized at that time, as "Liverpool" is already Mascherano's third club this season. According to FIFA rules, a player cannot represent more than two different teams in one season, and the Argentine player represented "Corinthians" (Brazil) in 2006 before joining the London team.
Earlier, Liverpool sent a special letter to FIFA officials requesting exclusive permission, and their request was granted.
"The Premier League fulfills Liverpool's request because it complies with the league's rules," said an official statement. "It is also important to note that the relationship between the club and the player was not influenced by a third party."
