The French champion club took advantage of a condition in the contract of former Brazil national team player Juninho and extended his contract for another year until 2009.
The agreement of the 32-year-old attacking organizer and penalty kick specialist would have expired next summer, but club president Jean-Michel Aulas stated that the Brazilian will stay with the team for an additional year.
"Juninho's contract was set to expire in 2008 with the option to extend it for another year. We did so, and he will remain in our team until 2009. Furthermore, Juninho told me he would gladly stay in the club until 2010. I told him I will announce it by the end of February," J.M. Aulas said.
The Brazilian imported to "Lyon" in 2001 from Brazil's "Vasco Da Gama" eleven, where he became his country's champion twice and won the "Libertadores" cup once. Representing the "Lyon" team, Juninho became the champion of the French "Ligue 1" five times.
On Wednesday, "Lyon" club will face the footballers of "Roma," who hold the second place in the Italian championship, in the first round of the UEFA Champions League round of 16.
