Before the Champions League round of 16 match happening before Wednesday, the team's head coach Gerard Houllier expressed his lack of expectation that the opposing club will play attacking football.
"Such a scenario happens when you play in Italy. They play counter-attacking football and won't apply constant pressure," G. Houllier said in an interview given to journalists on Tuesday.
"Among them, there are exceptional players like Francesco Totti, Daniele De Rossi, and Simone Perrotta, who became World Champions with the Italian national team," the coach added.
"We must keep in mind that they demonstrate the best defense in Serie A. They are a great team, but so are we," G. Houllier shared his thoughts.
The five-time French champions Lyon reached the Champions League quarterfinals three times in a row, but they failed to be among the four strongest clubs in Europe even once.
