The president of the leading Milan club in the Italian championship, Massimo Moratti, announced that the team's forward, Adriano, will be punished for inappropriate behavior outside the field. Allegedly, the Brazilian enjoyed a wild party until the early hours last weekend.
Three days after his 25th birthday on Wednesday, the footballer did not show up on the field for the Champions League match. The team's coach, Roberto Mancini, did not comment further on this decision and simply stated that the player was not ready for the match, but rumors quickly spread that Adriano simply enjoyed his birthday party too much.
"I don't know how long Adriano's party lasted, you, journalists, usually know more than me... I only know that he will be punished, there are people in the club who will take care of these matters," said M. Moratti.
In the Italian media, it was speculated that his behavior upset Inter and the player could be sold after the season, but the president of the Milan club denied such rumors.
"How many times have we heard such news (about the possible departure of Adriano - ed.)? Saturday was his birthday and he had the right to celebrate, unfortunately he did it a bit too intensely. We certainly won't condemn him forever, we just want to put him in a place that will help him avoid such thoughtless actions in the future," said the club's manager.
Asked whether the potential elimination from the Champions League after the draw with Valencia at home could diminish the potential title of the Italian champions: "I don't think that's true. Besides, we haven't won the championship yet, so we have to fight for it. These are two different tournaments - let's win one of them first, and then we'll see how it goes in the other one,"
