The president of the French club currently leading in the "Ligue 1" championship, but showing poor results in recent matches, Jean-Michel Aulas, announced that in the upcoming weekend league game against the team on the field, the fans will see the second team lineup.
The club's management made this decision after "Saint-Etienne" refused to postpone these matches, despite "Lyon" asking to do so, considering that the team will have very important UEFA Champions League round of 16 matches against "Roma" club next Tuesday.
"When you have the opportunity to help one of the best teams in France just two and a half days before the start of very important matches for the whole country and refuse to do so, it is very disappointing," commented Aulas on the opponents' decision.
"This forces us to field a completely different team lineup in the 'Ligue 1' matches than the one that will play against 'Roma,' and I think 'Saint-Etienne' did this just to gain an advantage while playing against us. That is not honorable."
"Our main goal at the moment is the UEFA Champions League. This should be important for the remaining French teams as well because by continuing our performance in Europe, we earn UEFA ranking points that are beneficial for all our country's clubs."
