Continuing the training camp in Cyprus, Vilnius played a friendly match against the Latvian team "Metalurgs" from Liepaja on Thursday and lost with a score of 0-1. The opponents scored a goal with only 10 minutes left until the end of the match.
In these matches, the goal of Žalgiris was defended by the reserve team goalkeeper Algirdas Surgautas, but after he got injured, the main goalkeeper Ernestas Šetkus had to step in.
The team "Metalurgs", which became the vice-champion of Latvia in 2006 and won the Latvian Cup, is coached by Lithuanian Benjaminas Zelkevičius, and there are several compatriots playing in the team - defenders Darius Miceika, Tomas Tamošauskas, Vadimas Petrenka, Mindaugas Kalonas, and striker Nerijus Astrauskas, while the former "Vilnius" forward Artūras Jeršovas is currently participating in the trial.
It is interesting that both clubs will compete in the same Baltic Football League group, with matches starting next week.
