The leader of the German Bundesliga, the Gelsenkirchen club, cannot withstand the nerve pressure and in the last three matches won by just one point, allowing the closest competitor, the "Werder" club, to reduce the deficit to 3 points.
"The team feels quite free even though outsiders try to make us nervous," said "Schalke" club's sporting director Andreas Mueller after the 2-0 victory in Friday's match.
"It's not a problem. Sometimes we just lack a bit of luck. The team looks great and works hard," Mueller continued.
"This is not an easy situation for us. Our fate is in our hands," concluded the sporting director, whose team can win the first German champion title since 1958.
In a similar moment, the "Schalke" team had the initiative in the 2004-2005 season, but later faced a decline, which resulted in settling for the second place at the end of the championship.
In 2001, "Bayern" also took the first place when in the last season match during extra time snatched a draw against the "Hamburger" club and took the champions' title from the "Schalke" team.
