The Spanish national football team, preparing for the European Championship in Portugal and coached by Inaki Saezas, believes that this European Championship could be exceptional.
Over the weekend, news appeared in the press that Saezas has extended his contract with the Spanish team for another two years. The 61-year-old coach admitted that the offer to coach the Spaniards came back in November, when the Spaniards eliminated Norwegians in the qualifying stage.
"I definitely want to renew emotions and bring confidence to the team," Saezas said. "Important matches will start soon and I believe that everyone will understand the high level of competition we are participating in. Let people understand that I come to work."
"There is a great atmosphere in the team camp," added Saezas. "The players' moods are great, there are no thoughts of losing because there is a very important rule - if you even think once that you can lose, then you have already lost."
Santiago Canizares, who plays for Valencia FC, will be the main goalkeeper for the Spanish national team. By some secret way pushing his competitor, Iker Casillas from Real Madrid, out of the main lineup.
"Decisions are always made by the coach and nobody else," Canizares asserts. "All other talks are just opinions that are insignificant. The most important thing is to serve the team well."
Canizares believes that unity can be the key to success. "There are several teams that may be better than Spain, so we have to work very hard to achieve our goal," the goalkeeper says. "Maybe no one thought that "X" and "Y" would achieve so much this season, but the players believed and worked hard. We also have to work and achieve good results in the European Championship."
The Spanish national team will play their final friendly match against Andorra on June 5. And their journey in Europe begins with a match against Russia on June 12.
