Impressive rise from the bottom of the table for "Mainz" was halted by the "Aachen" team, who also desperately needed points at the moment. After a tough battle at home, Aachen won the match against "Mainz" with a score of 2-1, ending the latter team's three-game winning streak.

After playing for just over ten minutes, "Mainz" took the lead, with M. Zidan scoring the seventh goal in four matches, repeating his unsuccessful first attempt. "Aachen" equalized shortly after halftime when J. Schlaudraff scored from close distance, and a few minutes later, V. Ibisevic redirected L. Reghecampf's penalty shot into the goal, giving the hosts the lead.

During the remaining time, both teams had a great opportunity to score from the eleven-meter mark, but both L. Reghecampf and M. Zidan's shots were saved. After the end of their winning streak, "Mainz" dropped to fourteenth place, while "Aachen" moved up one spot due to a better goal difference.

The other Bundesliga debutants, "Cottbus," also secured a victory, defeating "Borussia" 3-2 away. The standout performers were the strikers of both teams, V. Munteanu and A. Frei, each scoring two goals. This was "Cottbus" club's first away win in their last five matches.
