After Wednesday's first match of the Baltic Football League in Tallinn ended in a 1-1 draw with last season's Estonian champions "Levadia," Vilnius "Žalgiris" president and head coach Arminas Narbekovas claimed to be satisfied with the result.
"Today we are very happy with the draw, but we know that it's only the beginning of a long season," said the Lithuanian at a press conference. "We just returned from Cyprus, we are plagued by injuries, and the team is not yet fully assembled. Also, the lighting on the field could have been better."
Meanwhile, "Levadia" head coach Tarmo Ruutli was clearly disappointed with the result.
"I'm not happy with the draw," said Ruutli. "But at the same time, you can't blame anyone when you concede such a strong and precise shot. Today, we lacked confidence in the attack. In the middle of the field, we won many balls, but we wasted them due to haste or carelessness."
The team's forward Tarmo Kinkas echoed the sentiments of the coach: "We should have won. We had the initiative, created more and better goal-scoring opportunities. Furthermore, 'Žalgiris' was lucky to score that goal. However, this draw doesn't mean anything yet - the true strength of the teams will be revealed on the real grass."
