On Friday in the Greek capital Athens, the draw for the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals took place, which divided the eight strongest teams of this season in Europe into four pairs, and also revealed the potential semifinal pairs.
One of the most impressive matches awaits between the 2003 winner "Milan" and the 2001 league champion Munich "Bayern" clubs, who already played against each other in the last season's quarterfinals, with the Italian club advancing after a convincing home victory.
In the semifinals, the winner of the last pair will face either the 2005 winner "Liverpool" or the Eindhoven "PSV" club, who already eliminated one English club in the quarterfinals - for the second season in a row, coaches Rafa Benitez and Ronald Koeman will meet in the knockout stages, with Koeman having defeated the Liverpool club last year while coaching Lisbon's "Benfica". Additionally, the teams had met in the group stages, where one match ended in a draw, and the other was won by "Liverpool".
In the quarterfinals, the English league leader "Man Utd" will face the surprise of the round from the quarterfinals and the multiple French champion "Lyon", who eliminated them, while last year's English champion London "Chelsea", which is the only team in the quarterfinals that has never played in the European Champions Cup final, will face the Spanish team "Valencia", which was close to the goal in 2000 and 2001.
The first quarterfinal matches will be played on April 3-4, with the second legs on April 10-11. The semifinal matches will take place on April 24-25 and May 1-2, and the final at the Athens Olympic Stadium will be held on May 23.
