The long-standing goalkeeper of the Lithuanian national team left the "Jurmala" club, which finished sixth in the Latvian championship last season, the team's official website announced on Monday.
"We thank Gintaras Staučė for his work and game in the club, for helping to raise young goalkeepers," the club's statement said. "We wish him success in his future sports career and business development."
The club's statement mentioned that the decision to part ways with the 37-year-old goalkeeper was made because it was decided to entrust the role of the main goalkeeper to the rapidly progressing Pavel Šteinborn.
G. Staučė, who has represented Moscow's "Spartak", Istanbul's "Galatasaray", Izmir's "Karsiyaka", Istanbul's "Sariyer", "Duisburg", Athens' "Akratitos" and "Fostiras", "Kallithea" clubs, and the aforementioned "Jurmala" club, is the second in terms of matches played for the Lithuanian national team. He played 61 matches in the national team from 1992 to 2004 - only four less than Aurelijus Skarbalius.
It is worth reminding that in the autumn of 2004, the Lithuanian Football Federation proposed that he take on the role of the national team's goalkeeper coach.
