The Portugal national team started the World Cup triumphantly.

Fernando Santos' pupils defeated the Ghana national team 3-2 in Group H matches.

The first half was quite dull from both teams. Cristiano Ronaldo had the only real opportunity to score, but his shot was saved by the Ghanaian goalkeeper.

The first goal of the match came in the 65th minute. Ronaldo provoked a penalty kick and successfully converted it himself.

Within 8 minutes, Andre Ayew equalized the score after Mohammed Kudus' pass.

However, Ghana's national team coach soon replaced the two attackers who combined for the goal and immediately awaited Portugal's response.

In the 78th minute, Portugal took the lead with Joao Felix, and shortly after the substitution, Rafael Leao came in and doubled the lead for Fernando Santos' side.

In added time, Ghana's goalkeeper Osman Bukari reduced the deficit. For the remaining time of the match, the "Black Stars" could not equalize again.

During the last minutes of the game, there was a very interesting attempt by Ghana's forward, Inaki Williams, to equalize. The "Athletic" player tried to catch the unprepared Portuguese goalkeeper Diogo Costa, but he slipped and failed to widen the score.

After this victory, Portugal leads Group H, as South Korea and Uruguay shared a point in the next match.
