In 2016, Joshua Kimmich, who debuted for the German national team, took another German World Cup failure very personally.
The versatile defender criticized himself harshly after the defeat and saw almost no positives.
"I joined the national team in 2016. Before that, we always made it to at least the semifinals. Then we left the tournament twice after the group stage. Being associated with failure is something you don't want. I couldn't help the team. We go back home and I'm afraid I'll fall into a psychological hole,"
"This is the worst day of my career. One could think that these failures are related to my personality," said J. Kimmich.
On Thursday, Germany defeated Costa Rica 4:2, but the unfavorable result in the next match eliminated the former World Cup champions from the tournament.
