Thousands of fans sign petition against FIFA © PA

Football fans have run out of patience.

Scandals at FIFA, the ban-filled world championship in Qatar happening during fall-winter, and other factors led to the emergence of a petition demanding change.

"Protect football from FIFA" states that this organization is failing and unfit to govern world football.

"It's time to reclaim football. FIFA is committed in its statutes to oppose all forms of discrimination. However, we have seen multiple times that FIFA does not adhere to this commitment.

For decades, FIFA has been plagued by scandals - allegations of corruption, extortion, match-fixing, ethical violations, ticket fraud, improper handling of sexual assault cases.

Before the World Cup in Qatar, there were clear signs that FIFA is unfit to achieve its goals - stadium construction cost people their lives and resulted in thousands of injuries to unpaid workers. Their families were also destroyed.

Women's rights are limited, and the LGBTQ+ community is criminalized. As football enthusiasts, we cannot choose the countries hosting the World Cup, but we can urge radical changes in the governing body that turned this tournament into reality.

Gianni Infantino will be re-elected as FIFA president, as he is running unopposed. This undemocratic and morally bankrupt organization is not suitable for our football game. The main FA members and federations must call for a complete overhaul.

If FIFA fails to meaningfully engage in this process, federations must instruct sponsors to withdraw and request investors to review their allocated funds.

As football fans, we know the power we have when we come together demanding reform. Join us now and say that FIFA must urgently change radically or be abolished," the petition states.
