On Wednesday, four second leg matches took place in the UEFA Cup tournament. Interestingly, all home teams celebrated victories and secured their spots in the UEFA Cup quarterfinals. Leverkusen's "Bayer" celebrated one of the most impressive victories at home, defeating France's "Lens", and another favorite Bremen's "Werder" convincingly beat Vigo's "Celta". After a defeat in France, Leverkusen's "Bayer" sought revenge at home against "Lens" with a three-goal advantage. German players started attacking from the first minutes, but only managed to score in the 36th minute when Andrej Voronin, who will transfer to "Liverpool" in the summer, scored with a long-range shot. After halftime, Bernd Schneider passed the ball from the wing into the penalty area, A. Voronin hit the crossbar with his head, but Sergej Barbarez was the first to reach the ball and doubled the lead. With 20 minutes left to play, A. Voronin added a third goal with a header from a corner kick and Juan sealed the victory for Leverkusen. In the quarterfinals, another German team will be featured – Bremen's "Werder", who defeated Spain's Vigo "Celta" in the subsequent match. The first goal came after Christiano Schulz's pass from the wing was headed into the goal by Hugo Almeida. The second goal followed an individual breakthrough from the right wing by Clemens Fritz with a precise shot into the far corner of the goal. "Celta" managed to equalize (Jesus Perera), but the referees signaled an offside. Glasgow's "Rangers", aiming for ambitious goals in the UEFA Cup tournament, had to admit defeat against Spain's "Osasuna". The match in Pamplona was largely one-way traffic. "Osasuna" constantly attacked but failed to capitalize on their chances – the ball after dangerous shots from Bernardo Romeo and Gomez Juanlu flew past the goal or to the goalkeeper Allan McGregor. However, the Scots' defense was compromised in the 71st minute when Pierre Webbo scored from a low-cross into the penalty area. "Tottenham", having breezed through the playoff round, crossed the quarterfinal hurdle. The London club, attacking for the second time with a similar result of 3-2, overcame Portugal's "Braga". "Tottenham" will play in the UEFA Cup quarterfinals after a 22-year hiatus.
