Judge Szymon Marciniak's work in the World Cup final received criticism from the French press.

France's biggest daily newspaper "L'Equipe" rated the referee's work by giving him 2 points out of 10 in the rating system.

S. Marciniak awarded three penalty kicks during the match: two of them to Argentina's goal, and one to France's goal.

Also, during the final, a total of 8 yellow cards were shown, including one to Emiliano Martinez during the penalty shootout and one to Olivier Giroud sitting on the bench.

In the World Cup final, "Les Blues" lost to Argentina after a penalty shootout. The main time and extra time ended with a score of 3:3.
