Attacker Karim Benzema dashed the last hopes that he would ever again wear the French national team's jersey.
The 35-year-old veteran, who missed the World Cup in Qatar due to injury, officially announced his retirement from the national team.
"I made efforts and mistakes to end up where I am now and I am proud of it.
I wrote my story, and our story has come to an end," said K. Benzema.
In the French national team, the sniper scored 37 goals and made 20 assists in 97 matches.
