After playing a 0-0 draw with Liepaja's "Metalurgs" on Saturday, the head coach and president of Vilnius "Žalgiris" Arminas Narbekovas stated after the match that the team was "punished by the referees".
"The referees punished us severely," said Narbekovas at the press conference. "Vilėniškis received the second yellow card really undeservedly - such fouls used to not even be whistled for before. And it is very difficult to resist in the remaining ten, especially against a team like "Metalurgs".
"But I am glad that the guys held their ground excellently, we really didn't give "Metalurgs" many opportunities," said the strategist.
"Today was one of those matches where the goalkeeper and defenders played better than the offense," Narbekovas commented.
When asked whether the match highlighted the need to strengthen the team's offense, Narbekovas replied somewhat annoyed: "What's wrong? Today I am satisfied with Valerijus Mizegurskis' performance. He didn't have many chances, but he did a lot of hard and dirty work. We wanted to play with two forwards at the end of the match, but our plan was ruined by the referees."
Regarding the arrival of new forwards for the team's review, the coach of "Žalgiris" stated that he would only talk about them once they arrived.
Speaking at the press conference, "Žalgiris" defender Eimantas Poderis said that the team was a bit nervous playing in front of their own fans.
"We were nervous in front of our own fans, and it was felt at the beginning of the match," said the defender. "But two equally matched teams fought on the field. We are happy with the successful match: one point and a clean sheet."
