Over the weekend in the Netherlands, nine 29th "Eredivisie" championship matches took place, in which in addition to a multitude of goals scored, several unexpected results were recorded.
The country's champions and current leaders, Eindhoven's "PSV", suffered a shameful defeat at home, as they were unexpectedly knocked out easily by Amsterdam's "Ajax", thus reigniting the intrigue.
The visitors broke through in the 18th minute, with "Ajax" attack leader Klaas Jan Huntelaar scoring, and at the end of the first half, Wesley Sneijder added a second. After the break, "PSV", with Patrick Kluivert scoring, managed to revive the intrigue, but later only the visitors scored goals - Huntelaar scored again in the 72nd minute, Gabri added another goal a minute later, and at the end of the match, the hosts were finished off by Kenneth Perez.
After this shameful defeat, "PSV" remained the sole leaders, but "Ajax" in second place reduced the gap to 5 points.
An unexpected result was recorded in the city of Almelo, where local team "Heracles" managed to hold off Alkmaar's "AZ", resulting in a goalless draw.
"AZ" could not take advantage of "Twente's" stumble, as they also played to a draw away against "Groningen", despite initially leading after an Sharbelo Tauma goal. "Groningen" equalized the score in the second half through Luis Suarez.
A rather unexpected result was recorded in Waalwijke, where second-to-last placed "RKC" defeated "Roda" 3-2.
In the match between "Heerenveen" and "NAC", which was won 4-2 by the former, Afonso Alves scored a hat-trick, while Glen Salmon scored two goals for the visitors.
This round, as usual in the Netherlands, was marked by a multitude of goals. In nine matches a total of 28 goals were scored - slightly more than 3 per match. In total, 767 goals have been scored in the Eredivisie championship so far, which averages to over 26 goals per round (almost 3 per match).
