Former French national team midfielder Robert Pires made his debut for Villarreal only seven months after moving to a Spanish club - just before the season started, the veteran suffered a serious knee injury which has only now healed.
The 33-year-old midfielder debuted in official matches for Villarreal in Sunday's match against Real Sociedad from San Sebastian. The player appeared on the field in the 60th minute, and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
In preseason friendly matches against Cadiz, R.Pires was missing the cruciate ligaments in his knee.
The Frenchman moved to the Spanish club in the summer when his contract with Arsenal in London ended.
