Open letter from "Vilnius" fans to the club © EuroFootball.com

EuroFootball.com prints an open letter from the most active FC fans - "FCV Sector" - to the club's management expressing dissatisfaction with the club's transfer policy. The text is unedited. In this letter addressed to FC "Vilnius", the perspective of our most loyal FC Vilnius fans is presented regarding what is happening in the club. We, the "Vilnius" fans, have been, are, and will always be with the club, but we believe we have the right to express our position on what is happening in our supported club. We completely do not understand the club management's policy, which does no honor to the entire FC Vilnius club. We want to say that we are Lithuanians and all of us should have a common goal - to elevate Lithuanian football to another level, but it seems that everyone cares about it except the FC Vilnius management. We understand that nowadays, as the A league strengthens and becomes more professional, the club simply cannot do without foreign players. And that's not wrong, as almost all A league clubs have foreign players. However, it is incomprehensible for FC Vilnius to become a kind of Brazilian embassy. FC Vilnius fans find numerous, to say the least, strange decisions made by the club's management incomprehensible. It is no secret that FC Vilnius almost massively imports legionnaires from Brazil, so this club has become not the club with the name of the capital for many football fans, but a kind of Brazilian embassy in Lithuania. We do not feel any racial hatred or anything similar towards these legionnaires, but we are outraged that this club has completely lost its Lithuanian identity. We would understand if such purchases were justified and if the FC Vilnius team showed good results. Then such steps would be understandable and justified. However, for the third year in a row, large numbers of Brazilians have been brought to "Vilnius", who do not fulfill any of our hopes. This is incomprehensible to us. Let's remember the 2005 season... FC Vilnius seemed to have 6 Brazilians, who showed nothing, and the team looked tragic. Of those Brazilians, only Gleyton Barbosa remained, who was transferred to the second team and eventually, being 24 years old, has no contract, and is famous only for his friendship with Beata from the Funky group. The team then relied only on a few legionnaires and managed to achieve a respectable - fifth place. Also, let's remember that then the team lost the chance to fight for medals only in the penultimate round. At that time, the team's core consisted of young Lithuanian footballers. In the previous season, the number of Brazilian citizens in our club increased massively, and the result was changing coaches several times and achieving, mildly speaking, a low - 7th place. Not only did we find ourselves in such a low position, but we had to say goodbye to one of the best A league goalkeepers M. Kijewsky and defender A. Mrowec. More and more Lithuanian footballers had to spend time on the bench. And the worst part is that they sat on the bench not because they were bad players, but because the team management believed that at some point, the Brazilians would shine. And where did this team formation policy lead us? Moreover, with two years of painful experience, the club continues to implement a policy that is difficult to understand: Brazilians are still brought in large numbers and Lithuanians are sold. One of the most painful off-season losses was the sale of Mindaugas Panka to Vetra club. Mindaugas, although young, has great potential, is sold to another Vilnius team because according to the club, "we have many players in the same position." The club claims that there are better players than M. Panka in the club, but which player in that position has scored as much as Panka? The remaining Lithuanian players continue to be "pushed" to the bench and dismissed. And why? For business? Personal preferences? Answer us, why? There are no results, and through the esteemed club management, the club loses its spirit and face. Do you not notice what atmosphere prevails in the club? How would you describe it? It can be said that there is none. Can players who are so demoralized show good results? Finally, how can they communicate when most of their teammates are newcomers from Brazil? Lithuanians in this club become a kind of legionnaires themselves, finding it increasingly difficult to find Lithuanian-speaking team members. Does this seem normal to you? We want a good atmosphere to prevail in the club, for FC Vilnius to be a Lithuanian, not Brazilian club. We want a chance for our players, as well as for Lithuanian football. In short, we would like the team to become more Lithuanian and promote Lithuanian football. We want football in the FC Vilnius club to be not just a dull business, but football with its own face and character. This letter is an expression of our complete disappointment. We just want to show that we care about this football club and we want to express our view on the current situation. In the future, we will resort to other forms of protest if the club continues to pursue a policy that is incomprehensible to many. We hope that our wishes will be taken into account to some extent. We love this club, love its colors, and want it to create its own tradition as promised. But we believe that this tradition should not be Brazilian. It is only complete disappointment in the club management's policy and endless love for the club that prompts us to act like this. Respectfully, FC Vilnius' most loyal fans, FCV Sector
