In the last season, FC, which finished in seventh place, is once again changing their head coach. The sports director Ivan Švabovičius, who has recently been coaching the club, is leaving his coaching position, and he will be replaced by 42-year-old strategist Antanas Vingilys, who has previously worked as a coach in Marijampolė, and last season coached the Ukmergė team "Vilkmergės."
Speaking to EuroFootball.com about the change in coaches, the president of the "Vilnius" club, Algimantas Breikštas, said: "Ivan Švabovičius himself asked for a break, as it was difficult for him to work with players and communicate, as he does not speak foreign languages well. At the moment, he will coach the reserve team, and in a month we will decide what to do."
Interestingly, last week one of the coaches of the second division leaders "De Graafschaap" from the Netherlands, Andries Uldering, arrived at the capital's club.
"This coach, responsible for the academy activities of young players up to 17 years old in his club, has provided our team with a lot of very useful experience, which will be handy in the future. By the way, we are in negotiations with him and there is hope that A. Uldering could become the coach of our team at the end of May," revealed the president of "Vilnius."
According to EuroFootball.com, Tadas Gražiūnas, who played for "Žalgiris" last season and recently not belonging to the Romanian "Otelul" club, could join the ranks of "Vilnius" in the near future. This was also confirmed by A. Breikštas: "Yes, that's true, at the moment we are in negotiations, which are close to completion. We hope that at the beginning of next week we will sign a contract with Gražiūnas."
Asked about a public letter distributed by the most active fans of "Vilnius," the "FCV Sector," expressing dissatisfaction with the club's policy regarding foreign players, Algimantas Breikštas was cheerful and talkative: "Well, they wrote a letter, that's nice. The letter itself is interesting, nicely laid out. We are actually glad because if the fans react like that, it means they love their team. They just didn't talk to the club itself and didn't address it, which doesn't show professionalism on the part of our fans. If they had come to talk to the club, we would have gladly discussed and considered the problem, explained our positions and plans. After all, we invite fans to the opening and closing events of the season, we communicate, so they could have invited us as well. In general, I think this letter will not ruin our relationship, we take it lightly and do not intend to be angry."
On Saturday, Vilnius "Sportimos" will play a friendly match with another capital team, "Vėtra," at the "Vilnius" arena. The president of the "Vilnius" club invites their most loyal fans to attend the match.
"We will play against "Vėtra" at 11:30 am, and right after the match we invite our fans to an open conversation, where everyone interested can participate and resolve any issues," shared A. Breikštas about the plans.
