The Gelzenkirchen club, currently occupying the first place in the German Bundesliga, has good news. Defender Gustavo Varela and forward Peter Lovenkrands have recovered from their injuries and returned to the team's training camp.
28-year-old Uruguayan national team defender G. Varela and 27-year-old Danish national team forward P. Lovenkrands trained with the main team on Tuesday.
G. Varela, who has scored two goals in the country's championship, suffered a knee injury in a match against Hertha Berlin in February and underwent surgery, leading to speculation that he would not be able to play for the rest of the season. However, things took a positive turn and the defender recovered faster than expected.
Meanwhile, P. Lovenkrands, who has scored 6 goals in the Bundesliga, strained the tendons in his right ankle in a match against Wolfsburg in February and was sidelined for six weeks.
These news are great for the team led by Mirko Slomka, who is aiming for the champions title with Schalke and hopes that both players will be able to help the team in the match against Bayern Munich on March 31st.
