Ukrainian national team and London's Chelsea forward Andriy Shevchenko will miss the European Championship qualifier against the Faroe Islands due to a minor injury.
"Andriy did not fly with the national team to the Faroe Islands. He suffered a minor injury during training and we decided to leave him in Ukraine so that the player could properly prepare for Wednesday's match against Lithuania," said the assistant coach of the Ukrainian national team, Andriy Bal.
A.Shevchenko, who has been playing for the Ukrainian national team for 12 years, has represented it 72 times and scored 33 goals.
Due to injuries, two more players will not be able to help the Ukrainian national team in the matches in Torshavn - defenders from Kiev's Dynamo Serhiy Rebrov and Ruslan Rotan.
Interestingly, for some time it was uncertain whether the match between the Faroe Islands and Ukraine would take place, as it snowed heavily and rained for several days in Torshavn. However, UEFA decided on Friday to hold the match.
After three matches, Ukrainians have collected 6 points in Group B of the qualifiers, occupying the 4th place. Meanwhile, representatives of the Faroe Islands have lost all four matches so far and are in last, 7th place.
