Revived Idea of the Super League: 80 Teams and Emerging Sporting Principle

At the beginning of 2021, news broke about the creation of a new European Super League, which was supposed to involve the most famous clubs from the Old Continent.

The founders of the Super League at that time were supposed to be "Manchester City", "Manchester United", "Liverpool", "Chelsea", "Arsenal", "Tottenham", "AC Milan", "Inter", "Juventus", "Barcelona", "Real" and "Atletico".

However, English clubs withdrew from the project very quickly after fan protests began, and ultimately only "Real", "Barcelona", and "Juventus" supported the idea of the Super League.

For a while, it seemed that this idea would not come to fruition, but last October, the company "A22 Sports Management," responsible for creating the league, changed its director to Bernd Reichart and began preparations for the return of the Super League.

On Thursday, "Sky Sports" announced new plans for the Super League.

It is reported that "A22 Sports Management" essentially changed several key points that caused the most dissatisfaction among football fans.

First of all, the Super League would no longer be a closed league, and all European clubs could qualify based on their performances in national championships.

Furthermore, every season the Super League would have several divisions, with up to 80 teams competing in total. Each team would play at least 14 matches per season.

"A22 Sports Management" director B. Reichart, speaking with "Die Welt," stated that European club football is on the brink of collapse.

"European club football is on the brink of collapse. It is time for change. Clubs are the most important part of football structures, but often the most important decisions are made behind their backs.

Communicating with clubs, we understood that they cannot publicly express their opinions, as they are constantly threatened with sanctions for doing so.

We have a lot of work ahead of us, but we will continue the dialogue with the clubs," said B. Reichart.

According to reports, "A22 Sports Management" has been in dialogue with more than 50 European clubs since last fall.

It is expected that the new European Super League could kick off from the 2024-2025 season.
