Emmanuel Adebayor is considering the possibility of no longer representing the Togo national team due to death threats received.
The national team captain hinted at the possibility of boycotting the African Cup qualifying match against Sierra Leone due to unpaid bonuses and received threatening letters as a result. However, the match took place and Togo won 3-1, with E. Adebayor scoring two goals.
"Before the match, I received threats to my life with instructions to play or ...," the Arsenal striker said. "Thank God I was able to score those goals and win the game. I don't know what would have happened otherwise."
Disputes between Togolese footballers and the country's federation have been ongoing since the World Cup last summer. Sports officials promised players substantial bonuses for participating, but have not fulfilled their promise and have not paid the money until now.
"I'm just trying to correct some mistakes in Togolese football, but it seems that some people don't like it," said the national team star.
"Now I will return to London and consider what to do next. After all, I have to protect my life and take care of my family."
