Former Southampton coach Jesse Marsch will take a longer break in his coaching career.
The Athletic reported that negotiations ultimately failed due to the contract length. The Saints offered the American a short-term 6-month contract, but the specialist was not satisfied with such an offer.
The 47-year-old specialist wanted at least an 18-month contract.
According to The Athletic journalist Jacobo Tanswell, Southampton had been monitoring J. Marsch's progress for 7 years. However, after an unsuccessful period at Leeds, the club was unable to offer the American a longer contract.
Southampton will be led by interim coach Ruben Sellesas in the match against Chelsea.
