On Tuesday following the victory against the Czech Republic on Saturday, the vice president of the German Football Federation, Franz Beckenbauer, said that his country's national team is the best team in Europe.
Every week, in his column in the newspaper "Bild," F. Beckenbauer states that the victory in Prague solidified the reputation of the German national team as the best in Europe and brought them closer to the final stage of the 2008 European Championship, which will take place in Switzerland and Austria.
"I dare to say that. At this moment, we are the best national team in Europe. We imposed our game on the Czechs, and some details of our game looked like a training video," writes F. Beckenbauer in the newspaper.
"Taking advantage of what Jurgen Klinsmann achieved, the players now show a telepathic understanding among themselves and play like a perfectly cohesive team," says the German football legend.
Just a year ago, F. Beckenbauer harshly criticized the team's performance after a defeat against Italy in a friendly match with a score of 1-4. At that time, he expressed doubts about the methods used by the then national team coach J. Klinsmann and his assistant J. Low, sparking huge debates throughout Germany.
However, after the victory in Prague, F. Beckenbauer stated that J. Low's appointment as head coach was "truly successful."
Before taking over the German national team, at the age of 47, J. Low worked at clubs like "Stuttgart," "Vienna," and "Tyrol," without achieving significant successes. However, after taking over as head coach following the 2006 World Cup from Jurgen Klinsmann, he won seven out of the last eight matches with the team.
"Clearly, he has strong confidence among the team players," shared F. Beckenbauer his opinion.
