The team from London's "Chelsea" had to win in order to advance to the next knockout stage of the Champions League.
On Tuesday, G. Potter's squad battled against Dortmund's "Borussia" club in front of their own fans, after losing 0-1 in the first leg match in Germany.
The first goal of the match came in the 43rd minute, scored by the hosts' forward R. Sterling. The Englishman received a pass in the penalty area from a teammate and although he didn't score on his first attempt, he soon beat A. Meyer with a follow-up shot - 1-0.
In the 53rd minute, "Borussia's" situation became desperate.
The ball hit M. Wolff's hand in the penalty area, and after a VAR review, the referee awarded a penalty kick, which K. Havertz was able to convert on his second attempt. This gave the English team the desired two-goal advantage.
Although the Germans tried to attack, "Chelsea" managed to protect the result and secure their season in Europe.
