The Bundesliga team "Hamburger" will become another German football club to change its stadium name. On Thursday, the Hamburg club announced that they have signed a three-year stadium sponsorship agreement with the possibility to extend it for another three years with the German bank "HSH Nordbank". Starting from next season, the "Hamburger" stadium will be called "HSH Nordbank Arena". Since 2001, this arena, one of the most modern in Europe, was called the "AOL Arena" and was sponsored by an American internet provider. The stadium, which opened its doors in 1953, was known as the "Volksparkstadion" until then. "We are the first to sell stadium naming rights and we are proud to be the first to rename the stadium as well. This shows that our club can attract investors," - stated in the official announcement of the Hamburg club. In total, 12 out of the current 18 Bundesliga clubs have already changed their stadium names. The "Hamburger" club, who won the Champions League in 1983, is the only German club to have participated in all Bundesliga seasons since its inception in 1962 and has won it three times. This season is not the most successful for the Hamburg club - the team left the Champions League earlier than expected and was in the relegation zone in the German championship for some time. Currently, "Hamburger" is in 14th place.
