During the 2007 Sports Industry Awards held on Thursday, former England national team captain David Beckham received an award for his outstanding contribution to English football.
During the ceremony held in central London, the award was presented to the Real Madrid defender, who will move to play for the Los Angeles Galaxy after this season, by Arsenal team and French national team striker Thierry Henry and the chairman of the London 2012 Olympic Games organizing committee Sebastian Coe.
D. Beckham deserved such an honor for his contribution to English sports.
"In a world where it is easy to become a celebrity, David deserves this honor," said British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
"He is an important figure in our country's culture, but most importantly, he plays football excellently and each time he wore the jersey of the England national team, he wore it with pride," T. Blair said about D. Beckham.
