In the central match of the round, Munich's "Bayern" hosted visitors from Gelsenkirchen "Schalke". The home team took the lead in the 3rd minute thanks to Dutchman Roy Makaay, who struck accurately into the top corner of the goal after a successful pass from compatriot Marco van Bommel. This was the striker's 100th goal for "Bayern".
At the beginning of the second half, in the 48th minute, the same R. Makaay found himself in the middle of the attack again, but this time his shot was well saved by "Schalke" goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. In the 56th minute, the goalkeeper had to work again when Lukas Podolski attacked dangerously.
However, in the 78th minute, "Bayern" managed to secure three points - the opponents were finally defeated by Hasan Salihamidzic's accurate shot. The defending champions celebrated the victory and returned to the fight for the first place.
