The head coach of Alkmaar, currently occupying the 3rd place in the Dutch "Eredivisie" league, Louis van Gaal, has agreed to sign a new two-year contract with the club and has committed to staying with the team until 2010.
The 55-year-old specialist, who took over the reins of "AZ" from Co Adriaanse two years ago, managed to lead the club to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Cup tournament this year, where on Thursday the Dutch team will clash with the German side Werder Bremen.
Last year, he succeeded in finishing the club in second place in the Eredivisie championship, and this season "AZ" currently holds the third position in the league table, just five points behind the leader PSV Eindhoven.
Former L.van Gaal, whose services were sought by the Australian national team, had a contract that was supposed to end in July 2008, but by signing a new agreement, the coach agreed to stay with the club until 2010.
