Former Netherlands national team defender and current captain of Amsterdam club Jaap Stam suffered a minor Achilles tendon injury in Sunday's victory against Almelo's "Heracles" team and as a result, he may miss the last four championship matches.
The 34-year-old center-back, who left AC Milan in the summer and returned to his homeland, has played 25 games this season for Ajax in the Eredivisie, but due to a strained Achilles tendon in his left leg, he will be unable to play for several weeks.
It is worth noting that last week another defender from the Amsterdam team, Zdenek Grygera from the Czech Republic, suffered a knee injury and will be unable to play until May.
However, there are also some better news in Henk ten Cate's coached team. 21-year-old defender Thomas Vermaelen has returned to the team after recovering from a knee injury he suffered a few months ago.
Ajax is currently in 2nd place in the championship, trailing behind the leading PSV team by just three points.
