In the first half of the match, the visitors from Liverpool showed more desire and dominance. And after just 15 minutes of play, the first goal of the match was scored. Defender Joleon Lescott led Everton ahead after redirecting the ball into the net with a header following Mikel Arteta's penalty kick. This was his first goal since leaving Wolves and moving to Everton in the summer. The visitors could have doubled the score, but a long-range shot from young striker James Vaughan hit the crossbar of Thomas Sorensen's guarded goal.

In the second half, the home team attacked more. Norwegian striker John Carew's shot was saved by Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard. A few moments later, the American goalkeeper had to once again save his team from further trouble by deflecting the same J.Carew shot.

At the end of the match, T.Howard resisted J.Carew's shot, but the young striker Gabriel Agbonlahor was the first to rush to the ball, managing to equalize the score with a precise shot. This was his 5th goal in the English premier league.

After these drawn matches, Everton failed to surpass Tottenham in 6th place, while Aston Villa moved from 15th place to 14th.
