French national team and Bayern Munich club right-back Willy Sagnol may no longer appear in this season's UEFA Champions League due to a serious right knee injury suffered in the first quarterfinal match against "Milan" on Tuesday evening.
"He suffered a very serious meniscus injury," said Bayern's head coach Ottmar Hitzfeld to the media. "He will undergo surgery in the coming days and there is a high probability that he will not be able to help us much this season."
The 30-year-old W. Sagnol was substituted in the 68th minute of the match, with the score 1-0 in favor of "Milan," and was replaced on the field by Christian Lell. The match ended in a 2-2 draw.
