n the English Premier League team that currently occupies the third position - sad news. The defender from Brazil suffered an Achilles tendon injury during Tuesday's UEFA Champions League quarter-final match, where they won 3-0 against Eindhoven's PSV and will be out for up to four months.

An x-ray confirmed that Fabio strained the Achilles tendon in his right leg," said a Liverpool spokesperson. "He will undergo surgery and we estimate that he will be unable to play for approximately four months."

"It was a terrible trauma," said Liverpool's head coach Rafael Benitez, who predicted that it will take a considerable amount of time for F.Aurelio to return to the field.

The 27-year-old defender, who can play in a central or left-back position, suffered the injury when, with 15 minutes left in the match and Liverpool leading 3-0, he stumbled and fell on his right leg after receiving a pass.

"Fabio has been playing very well recently, and his loss is bad news for both us and him," added the Spanish specialist. "There was no one near him, and he fell as if someone had thrown a stone at him.

"He felt the pain in the back of his leg, which is why he fell. So, it's a huge tragedy for us. We played well, organized, but now we are very concerned about Fabio," the coach did not hide his disappointment.

The Brazilian joined Liverpool last summer, after deciding not to renew his contract with Valencia, and signed a four-year contract with his new team.
