Belgium's championship - a triumph not seen in 66 years.
The final round of the "Jupiler Pro League" was particularly dramatic. Two matches were held at the same time.
The reigning champions of last season, "Union Saint-Gilloise," were leading 1-0 against "Club Brugge" in the 88th minute and had the title in their hands, but then the complacent Bruges team scored three goals and the "Genk" team started leading the league.
The lead of "Genk" lasted for 5 minutes, as they were leading 2-1 against Antwerp's "Royal" team.
Then one of the greatest Belgian defenders of all time, Toby Alderweireld, lived up to his words. The Belgian equalized the score with a fantastic strike in the Genk vs Royal match and extended the title to Antwerp after a 66-year break.
By the way, T. Alderweireld became another player to win a title after leaving Tottenham. Another former "Spurs" player, Vincent Janssen, plays in the "Royal" team.
The Belgian national team defender fulfilled his promise last summer by joining the "Royal Antwerp" club and giving such an unexpected title to his hometown.
An all-time great football moment. Toby Alderweireld joined hometown club Royal Antwerp last summer, as he always promised he would. Tonight, he has won them their first league title since 1957 with this incredible strike vs Genk in the 94th minute! pic.twitter.com/KIysphCZKk
