On Sunday, six matches of the 33rd round were played in the English Premier League.

London club Arsenal, fighting for third place with Liverpool, managed to secure just one point after three consecutive failures, playing to a 0-0 draw away against mid-table Newcastle.

It wasn't a good game for the Gunners - Arsene Wenger's team struggled in attack and hardly deserved a win. Not even the fact that the hosts' main goalkeeper Shay Given had to leave the pitch in the 25th minute due to injury and was replaced by Steve Harper helped them.

The best chance for Newcastle to score in the second half came from winger James Milner, whose shot hit the crossbar.

However, towards the end of the match, luck smiled on the Magpies - defender Nolberto Solano twice cleared the ball off the goal line after shots from Gilberto Silva.

"We lacked creativity, but we showed great team spirit. We wanted to win, but it was just as important not to lose," said Wenger.

Meanwhile, Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder expressed disappointment: "We should be pleased with the point we earned, but I'm disappointed we couldn't get all three."

After 32 matches, Arsenal remained in fourth place with 56 points, trailing league leaders Liverpool by four points.

Also ending in a 1-1 draw were the neighboring teams in the standings, fifth-placed Bolton and Everton from Liverpool.

Bolton took the lead in the 18th minute through a goal from Kevin Davies, but Everton's 18-year-old talent James Vaughan equalized unexpectedly in the 33rd minute.

In the second half, neither team managed to break through the strong defenses and the match ended in a draw, much to the satisfaction of Arsenal.

Both teams have collected 54 and 51 points respectively after 33 matches, keeping their hopes alive to surpass Wenger's team and fight for a place in the UEFA Champions League.

Watford pulled off a surprising victory, defeating Manchester United 4-2 at home, with Portsmouth suffering a defeat after leading 2-0 early in the match.
