Round 2: "Kaunas" and "Vėtra" Win at Home (Updated) © EuroFootball.com

In the Lithuanian championship on Wednesday there were four matches of the 2nd round. The defending champions "Kaunas" secured their second victory and tied with "Žalgiris" who also have six points, "Atlantas" achieved their first win by defeating "Vėtra" at home, while the matches between "Ekranas" and "Vilnius" as well as "Inter" and "Šilutė" ended in draws.

In the capital, "Vėtra" narrowly defeated Klaipėda's "Atlantas". Vilnius started the game off much more actively and took the lead in the 5th minute with a goal from Vitalijus Stankevičius. "Vėtra" continued to create chances and in the 33rd minute Stankevičius scored his second goal. Lima Severino was fouled in the penalty area by Darius Ramonas and the resulting penalty was converted by former "Nevėžis" leader.

After the break, "Atlantas" improved their game significantly with veteran Rimantas Žvingilas making a big impact. He was able to hold the ball and make precise passes. In the 65th minute, Klaipėda's striker Luka Aničičius had a great opportunity after a pass from R.Žvingilas, but he failed to outsmart the goalkeeper Vaidas Žutautas.

With 15 minutes left to play, L.Aničičius corrected his mistake and equalized with a header. "Vėtra" focused more on defense for the remaining time, while "Atlantas" had several dangerous attacks. However, the Vilnius team defended well and secured their first victory.

The vice-champions "Ekranas" dropped their first points at home, playing to a 0-0 draw with "Vilnius". The match saw Panevėžys lose defenders Taavi Rahno and Manto Savėnas to injuries. This was the second consecutive goalless draw for "Vilnius".

The champions "Kaunas" defeated "Šiauliai" at home. Kaunas started the game strongly and after just 4 minutes Ričardas Beniušis scored a header following a pass from Artūras Rimkevičius. They doubled their lead shortly after due to an own goal by the young goalkeeper Šarūnas Jurevičius of Šiauliai.

After scoring two quick goals, "Kaunas" players relaxed. Towards the end of the match, "Šiauliai" scored a consolation goal through Vaidas Viktoravičius.

In another match in Vilnius, the championship's underdogs Visaginas "Inter" and "Šilutė" met. Both teams played to a draw and earned their first point in the competition.

In Tuesday's matches, Vilnius "Žalgiris" defeated Marijampolė's "Sūduva" 1-0.
